WORLD OF COMEDY (INTERNATIONAL) FILM FESTIVAL
FEBRUARY 25 - MARCH 1, 2009

RULES AND REGULATIONS

The WORLD of COMEDY FILM FESTIVAL (WCFF) is an independent non-profit organization with offices in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

CATEGORIES

The WCFF offers an international perspective that embraces the broad definition of "comedy": feature length films, shorts, animation, mockumentary, experimental, and documentaries. All films must be in English or have English subtitles.

ELIGIBILITY

  • Entry into the World of Comedy International Film Festival is open to professional and non-professional filmmakers from all over the world who are working in the comedy genre including: features and shorts, narrative, experimental, animation, mockumentaries and documentaries about comedy.
  • Films accepted may be either full- length features or shorts. All films must have been completed after September 1st, 2006.
  • Features may not have had public screenings in Canada (with the exception of other festivals) prior to this festival.
  • Features and shorts that have been broadcast on Canadian television prior to the Festival will not be accepted. An exception may be made, at the discretion of the Festival. However, any previously televised shorts that are accepted to the Festival will not be eligible for the Jury prize in that category but may be eligible for an Audience Choice Award.
  • A 'rough cut' may be submitted for consideration. However, if chosen to be in the festival, your film must be completed and delivered to the WCFF by February 4, 2009.
  • A filmmaker may enter more than one film. Each entry must be accompanied by a separate official entry form and appropriate fee for each entry.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

  • All non-English language films must be subtitled in English for consideration
  • Entries must be submitted on DVD (Pal or NTSC) only. Please do not send masters, originals or irreplaceable tapes or DVD’s. Preview DVD’s must be labeled with the title, contact information and running time. Films are submitted on DVD format should be professionally burned to ensure compatibility with other DVD machines. It’s very frustrating to receive DVD screening copies that freeze up partway through so please screen them for quality before submitting.
  • Please label the outside of your package “For Festival Preview Only – No Commercial Value”. Do not value the package at higher than $10.00 Canadian.
  • Preview DVD’s and supporting materials will not be returned unless a self-addressed, stamped, padded envelope is included. Entries from outside Canada should use International Postal Coupons.
  • All courier costs of screener DVD’s submitted are to be covered by the applicant. You will be liable for customs duties not covered by the WCFF and your DVD will be returned to you. Please choose your courier company accordingly. Do not use UPS (United Parcel Service) as they charge large customs fees that we are unable to pay.
  • Do not send your screeners in fibre filled envelopes. The dust may damage DVD’s and screening machines.
  • All applications forms must be signed. Notice of participation implies recognition of these regulations. In any dispute, the decisions of the Festival will be final.
  • All films accepted into the festival must arrive at the festival office in their appropriate screening formats by February 4, 2009. If prints are not received by this deadline the film will not be screened and will be pulled from the festival.
  • Entering the festival constitutes permission to use the filmmakers’ names and likenesses and support materials for publicity and promotions with no additional compensation. Up to 2 minutes of all selected films may be excerpted for publicity purposes. We reserve the right to publicize and promote any and all progress, development and success of the entered films.
  • Entry fees are non-refundable and must accompany each submission
    Canadian entries: $30 CDN/short $40 CDN/feature
    International entries: $30 US/short $40 US/feature

Cheques or money orders must be made out to: World of Comedy International Film Festival

SELECTION/NOTIFICATION/SHIPPING

  • Selection of films is made by a series of independent committees for both pre-selection and final selection.
  • Participants will be notified via e-mail or telephone approximately six weeks before the festival. The WCFF will cover the costs of shipping one-way by returning prints/tapes or forwarding them to their next destination approximately two weeks after the Festival ends.
